Astro Taro Fire Rated Round Adjustable Downlight - Matt White

The Taro Round Downlight is smartly designed in white and can be adjusted to a maximum 35° angle. You can aim light directly where needed or bounce it off a nearby surface (preferably pale in colour) to achieve broader and softer overall illumination. The ability to fine-tune the lighting angle is also useful for avoiding harsh reflections off shiny kitchen surfaces, for instance.

On top of its adjustability, the Taro Round Downlight is fire rated. To comply with Part B Fire Safety Regulations, recessed light fittings installed below an occupied floor are required to include fire protection. This is generally true of domestic or commercial buildings. In a house, a non-fire-rated fitting might be acceptable below an unoccupied space such as a roof void. By use of intumescent materials, a fire-rated downlight preserves the integrity of the ceiling in the event of a fire and allows crucial evacuation time for upstairs occupants.

Certified with an IP20 rating, the Taro Round Downlight offers no resistance to water and is best suited to dry indoor areas. It is an ideal choice for bedrooms, canteens, hallways, hospitality areas, kitchens, offices, and retail settings. As a Class 1 fitting, it requires a connection to earth during installation.

Bulb requirements

The Astro Taro Round Downlight requires a maximum 50W GU10 bulb (sold separately).

Either a halogen or LED GU10 can be used with this fitting. A halogen bulb is markedly cheaper and emits high quality warm white light, but is relatively poor in term of energy efficiency. An LED GU10 is 80-90% more energy efficient than halogen and much longer lasting. LED spotlights are also available in cool colour temperatures, which may be desirable in kitchens or other task areas.
