Emergency lights can either be "maintained' or "non-maintained'; the former is designed to stay on in the event of a power cut whereas the latter is normally kept switched off, and switches on automatically when power is lost. In either case the reserve of power is unsurprisingly provided by a battery, which typically allows illumination for up to 3 hours.
Battery power and functionality in these units should be regularly checked, with power-loss tests conducted on a monthly basis.
Standard and emergency
Many of these lights are available in either standard or emergency fittings, so you can blend the two types of light together seamlessly in your intended lighting scheme. The emergency lights will obviously be placed strategically to help personnel or the public to find and follow emergency exit routes. If you already have a lighting scheme in place and want your emergency lights to be unobtrusive as possible, you might consider one of our emergency conversion packs.
Signage
Some of our emergency lights are ideal for use in conjunction with emergency signage, either in the form of drop-down acrylic signs or stickers with text and pictograms on a wall-mounted light.
Technologies
Our emergency light fittings generally come in either long-lasting fluorescent or LED forms. Both have inherently impressive lifespans and consume little power, although LED wins most contests in any performance or eco-friendly comparison. Energy-saving fluorescent is typically a markedly cheaper upfront investment than LED, and has been developed over the years to become a high quality light source.
