About Lyco Track Lights Circuit 1,2 & 3

Lyco Track Lights

Lyco track lights are designed to work across 1, 2, and 3 circuit systems, with heads, track sections, and accessories that all share the same specification, so whether you're starting a new installation from scratch or adding to an existing Lyco setup, every product here is guaranteed to fit and perform together. Browse by circuit type using our 1 circuit track lights and 3 circuit track lights collections, or shop the full Lyco range below.

Mixing track lighting components from different manufacturers is one of the most common sources of frustration in what should be a straightforward installation. These are avoidable problems, and the way to avoid them is to buy the full system from a single compatible range.

The Lyco own brand track lighting range exists precisely for this reason. Every product is specified to work with every other product in the collection, across 1 and 3 circuit configurations.

The majority of spotlight heads in the Lyco range use the GU10 lamp format, which is the most widely used track lighting standard in UK residential and light commercial installations. GU10 track lighting is well supported, easy to source replacement lamps for, and compatible with a broad range of dimmer switches.

LED GU10 lamps fitted to Lyco heads deliver efficient, long-lasting light output that keeps running costs low over the lifetime of the installation. Most heads in this range are available in both black and white finishes, with adjustable tilting to let you direct light precisely where it's needed.

As one of the UK's leading LED track lighting specialists, Lyco has designed this range to make ordering simpler. All Lyco track lighting products are in stock for same-day dispatch, with free delivery on orders over £70 and next working day delivery as standard across the whole of the UK mainland.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Lyco track lighting heads compatible with non-Lyco track systems?

Lyco track heads are designed and tested to work within the Lyco own-brand track system. While many mains-voltage track systems share broadly similar mechanical dimensions, we always recommend using compatible track lighting heads and accessories from the same manufacturer to ensure correct earthing, reliable conductor contact, and consistent performance.

If you're adding heads to an existing system from a different supplier, check the track type and conductor configuration before ordering, or contact our technical team for guidance.

Can I mix 1 circuit and 3 circuit heads on the same Lyco track?

The circuit type of a head must match the track it's installed on. A 1 circuit head installed on a 3 circuit track will only ever use a single circuit, regardless of how many circuits the track carries, so it won't automatically gain access to the additional circuits.

Similarly, a 3 circuit head installed on a 1 circuit track will still function, but the circuit selector on the head will have no practical effect. For full use of a 3 circuit system's zoning capability, all heads on the track should be 3 circuit compatible.

What GU10 track lighting wattage should I choose?

For most domestic and light commercial applications, LED GU10 heads in the 5W to 10W range are appropriate. A 7W LED GU10 typically delivers lumen output comparable to a 50W halogen, which was the previous standard for track spotlight heads in UK installations. For spaces where high light output or a narrower beam angle is important, heads at the higher end of the wattage range or with a tighter beam angle will give better results. Product pages include lumen output and beam angle data to help you compare before buying.

How do I know how many track heads I need for a room?

A useful starting point is to aim for a total lumen output of around 300–400 lumens per square metre for general ambient light, or 500+ lumens per square metre for task or display lighting. To calculate the number of heads needed, divide your target total lumens by the output of your chosen head. It's always worth erring slightly on the side of more heads rather than fewer, as track heads can always be dimmed down but can't produce light they don't have.

Is a track lighting kit easier to order than buying components separately?

A track lighting kit bundles the track, spotlight heads, feed-in connector, and end caps into a single purchase at a combined price, as it removes the need to specify each component individually and ensures everything arrives together. Kits are well-suited to standard rectangular rooms with a single track run.
