Product Description
The Taro Single Downlight from Astro will blend perfectly into many settings with its white finish, whilst its 35-degree tiltable head allows you to angle the beam for accent lighting. This is a perfect choice of light for general illumination or spotlighting applications.
The Taro Single Downlight is part of a range of single, double, triple, and quadruple recessed downlight fittings. Fire-rated single lights are also available from Lyco, and all models can be ordered in an alternative brushed aluminium finish.
This particular model is not fire-rated, which generally makes it suitable for use in a ceiling with a roof cavity above. Fire safety regulations typically require that recessed lighting isn't used beneath occupied levels unless it is fire-rated, since this preserves the integrity of the ceiling and allows occupants time to evacuate.
With this and its IP20 Ingress Protection rating in mind, the Astro Taro Single Downlight is suitable for use in many upstairs bathrooms (zone 3 dry areas), bedrooms, and single-storey working or hospitality environments.
Fire-rating regulations
The Taro Single Downlight - White is not fire-rated. If you are planning to install this product into a building or location that is governed by building regulations, you will also need to purchase and install an appropriate intumescent firehood in conjunction with it to retain the fire-rating integrity of the ceiling. If in doubt please consult your electrician / installer.
Class II double-insulated
The Taro Single Downlight is a Class 2 double-insulated fitting that needs no connection to electrical earth during installation. This makes it suitable for use in any building, including one without an earthed lighting circuit.
Bulb requirements
A 50W maximum GU10 spotlight (sold separately) is required by the Taro Single Downlight. The initial cost of installing a halogen bulb will be modest, but an LED alternative can save you up to 90% in running costs and last anywhere from 10 to 25 times longer. Because LED lighting is naturally directional it's extremely economical in spotlights, since very little light is cast outside of the beam.
