LED Security lights combine peace of mind, high performance and high efficiency. When it comes to the actual difference between security lights and flood lights, the edges can be a bit fuzzy, but put simply - security lights are usually the ones that pop on and off by themselves. There are two reasons for this:

  1. They feature a photocell that detects ambient light and triggers the floodlight when it falls below a predetermined level.
  2. They include a movement sensor attached that detects objects breaking the defined perimeter, which is refined enough to avoid false alarms.

Standard LED floodlights are generally the ones that are switched on and off manually, providing light when required rather than for a security purpose.

The LED role

Security lights by their nature require need to illuminate bright light quickly, which can be very demanding in terms of power consumption. This is where LED security lights come into their own. They offer a cheap-running, eco-friendly solution with an eye on the future.

Cheaper still

Question - How do you make the most energy-efficient of modern forms of lighting even cheaper to run?

Answer - Buy investing in solar energy.

Once you're past the purchasing bit this form of LED Security lighting is free. Coupled with an already low-powered LED light fitting, a solar panel can provide enough energy to provide outdoor lighting for the whole night. With a PIR movement detector and photocell attached, that light will only be on for short bursts of time, so it can be made bright, too!

Fit for purpose

Security lights are usually tough affairs, with rugged casing and shatterproof glass. They obviously have to be if they're to deliver any type of realistic deterrent to would-be intruders. With LED security lights you're looking at a light form with no delicate parts to break, and less vulnerability to vibration or shock. It's a technology that is often nimble and used in small applications, but it's robust at the same time. It's a worthy doorman!

Long service

Whether it's deterring intruders or just helping you to find your keys or footing, an LED security light will give you years of service. You can be pretty certain of 20,000 to 30,000 hours, with some LED fittings promising an amazing 50,000 hours. The idea that a light form is unlikely to suddenly expire is an extra reassurance. You can rest easy at night with an LED security light.
