Emergency lighting might be broken down into two types, one being the green-coloured emergency lights with in-built signs designed to assist in evacuating a commercial building. These can be maintained or non-maintained. A maintained light is kept switched on and stays on in the event of a power cut, whereas a non-maintained only springs into action in the event of a crisis. These lights benefit from the low-powered, long-lasting properties of LED.

Other forms of emergency celling light or panel operate under the same principal, except that they always tend to be switched on by default and then jump to battery power in the event of a power cut. Usually you’ll get at least three hours of battery-powered illumination. Many lights are available in standard or emergency fittings, so you can place emergency lights discreetly and strategically alongside your regular lights in order to define a safe evacuation path.

Like their regular counterparts, emergency LED lights boast staggering lifespans of up to 50,000 hours - a duration likely to equate to years or even decades. We’re getting to a stage where a light bulb might be for life, and in the case of emergency lights they might also save lives!
