LED Reading Light- Read in the Light Today

LED Reading Light- Read in the Light Today

08/03/2010

Even though we are no longer kids, there is something thrilling about reading in bed after everyone else has gone to sleep. It used to be a flashlight under the covers, but now there are LED reading lights that can help us to enjoy the last few chapters of a great book while our partner is sound asleep.

The best thing about using a reading light with an LED bulb is the power that you get from such a small lamp. LEDs, or light emitting diodes, have a higher temperature on the Kelvin scale than incandescent bulbs. That is why their light looks more white or blue, as compared to a more amber glow from traditional light bulbs.

This higher colour temperature is easier for our eyes to read with; it shows the black and white contrast of the book pages better. The light emitted from an LED also has a higher candle power than that from an incandescent light bulb. All of this essentially means that you should be able to read as late as you want without worrying as much about eye strain.

Another great thing about LED reading lights is just how little power they use. You might get five or six reading hours out of a traditional book light before you have the change the one or two AA batteries that power it.

However, with LED technology you can run on a single AAA battery or even a lithium battery for dozens or even hundreds of hours of uninterrupted reading. This is good for your reading habit, for your wallet, and for the environment. With LED lights a small battery is often enough to run them with no problem. Also, for camping use you can find certain products that have a wind up knob that can be wound to power the light for long stretches of time – of course, when charge runs out, just wind the knob again. You will find out that LED reading lights come in all shapes and sizes, but some can benefit you more than others. You will get to see more and more technology coming out with new uses of LED bulbs.

There are many different styles of book and reading lights from which you can choose. The most traditional kind clips onto the back cover of your book. Then the light extends on a gooseneck and hovers over your pages.

As long as you can get a lightweight design, made possible by the low power needs of LEDS, you should be fine with this model. However, there are also models out there shaped like a wedge. They connect to the side, rather than the top, of your book and spill light on the pages. You get a powerful burst of light that doesn't have spill over and so does not disturb anyone else in the rom.

Through the power of and LED reading light you can stay up with your novel and enjoy the thrill of staying up way too late with a book.
