Create an Impressive Display

Most people have a selection of items that they are particularly proud of, bet it a range of collectables or hard earned awards. Displaying these items in your home will create a unique personalised display that can give visitors clues about your passions and achievements. It can also be a very cheering thing to walk past and be reminded of on a dreary day!

The best way to show off your special items is to think about the display cabinet lighting you will need. Without good lighting, items on lower shelves or ones that are placed at the back of any cabinet will be difficult to see. The style of shelves can help to maximise any display cabinet lighting you choose; glass shelves for example, will allow light to reach more items.

For smaller cabinets, a couple of spotlights in the roof may be all that is needed. However, larger displays featuring more items may benefit from a form of strip lighting. When placed in the ceiling of the cabinet, strip lights can help to give an even and balanced light. It may even be possible to place long thin strip lights along the side walls, or inside the door behind the frame. Strip lights are an excellent solution for display cabinet lighting that must show all products at one time.

For a more dramatic effect, a single spotlight centred in the ceiling may be to some people’s tastes. This can be a great way of highlighting one particular collectable or award, and can provide a display cabinet lighting system that allows you to showcase different items whenever your favourites change!

Smaller spotlights can be incredibly versatile, and it is possible to purchase self adhesive display cabinet lighting in this style. They are generally round, and have a push on and off system, where one touch activates the lights, powered by a group of LEDs. The advantage of using self adhesive lights such as these is their versatility. They can be placed wherever needed or desired, so particular shelves or items are easy to highlight. Similarly, they can be useful for creative effects such as up-lighting or backlighting items. With self adhesive lights, if any design becomes a little dull or boring, they are very easy to move and change the lighting set-up. They are also an excellent option if your cabinet does not have a power supply or easy access to a socket. Trailing wires can be not only unsightly but dangerous, and installing new wiring and lighting can often be expensive and time consuming, not to mention messy! For free standing cabinets, converted cupboards or display areas in open spaces where power is not easily available, self adhesive individual lights can be the perfect solution. They should be battery powered, and LEDs have a much lower energy output than regular light bulbs, meaning your batteries should have a long life span. Rechargeable batteries may also be a good investment, to make sure that your items are always displayed at their best.
