Decorative Filament Bulbs

Read more about Decorative Filament Bulbs

Decorative filament bulbs are inspired by designs dating back over 100 years, to a time when metal filaments were first being used in electric light bulbs. The development of ductile tungsten allowed single metal strands to be drawn into elaborate up-and-down ‘squirrel cage’ designs.

Purely pragmatic at the time, the eventual arrival of coiled filaments made these bulbs obsolete. But now they’re back, and in all shapes and sizes! Superbly effective in creating ambience, the filaments of these bulbs are manufactured in a variety of attractive ways. Their warm-glowing patterns are restful to look at, and memorable in their effect.

Ideal for use with clear-glass lanterns and open light fittings, decorative filament bulbs are popular in hotels, restaurants, bars and, increasingly, the home. They are available in most traditional lamp forms, including GLS, candles, globes, tubular lamps, and the original squirrel cage shape.

Most decorative filament bulbs use traditional incandescent technology at a low wattage. They often have an unusually warm colour temperature (e.g. 2000K), which emphasises their relaxing effect.

Decorative filament bulbs are also available in LED form. Made possible by the compact nature of LEDs, these bulbs have stunning visual appeal whilst consuming negligible power. Requiring a greater initial investment, they consume up to 90% less energy than incandescent varieties and last many times longer.
