LED lights are everywhere now, and it is definitely not surprising, since there are loads of advantages to LED lighting. Perhaps the biggest advantage is that they require such small amounts of power to provide large amounts of light, compared with conventional light bulbs. By switching to LED lighting, savings can be made on electricity bills – something that we’re all concerned about at the moment – and for the environment.

Because LED bulbs are so much smaller, this allows LED lighting to be much more flexible, with more compact fittings possible, and so lighting designers have been able to create much more artistic and sculptural styles. This is particularly the case with colour-changing LEDs and smart lighting, which allow for adjustments to be easily made, to create the perfect atmosphere.

For indoor settings, LEDs can be found in almost all types of lighting fixtures. All types of ceiling lights, wall lights and lamps can be lit up with LEDs, while task lighting that needs to be super-bright is enhanced when created with LEDs.

For older light fittings and those that require a screw or bayonet cap, bulbs can be replaced with LED bulbs to make those savings. LED bulbs have the advantage that they are available in all traditional shapes, as well as candle and flame shapes, and styles with decorative exposed filaments that can add to the character of whichever light fitting they are added to.

LED lights have transformed outdoor and garden lighting too. Because of the lower levels of power required, LED have made more options possible for outdoor lighting – particularly when it comes to solar powered styles, which prior to LED technology, weren’t effective enough in the UK. There’s a safety benefit to using LED lighting in the garden too, since the levels of electricity required are lower, and with smaller bulbs, it is easier for manufacturers to encase them and keep them waterproof.
