Pygmy & Appliance Bulbs
Pygmy and appliance bulbs are generally designed to be used in extremely confined spaces, though they’re also sometimes produced as decorative lights with various colours of glass.
Because their design is extremely compact, pygmy bulbs are not typically available in fluorescent form. One of the great advantages of LEDs is that their dimensions always measure in mere millimetres, so they can follow incandescent or halogen bulbs anywhere.
Usual advantages apply in choosing LED: they are up to 90% more energy efficient, last many times longer than filament bulbs, they offer good low-temperature performance, they’re cool-running, and they’re available with warm or cool white outputs (cool white LEDs tend to be slightly more energy efficient than warm white).
Pygmy and appliance bulbs are usually used in kitchen appliances such as fridges, cookers, and microwave ovens. They can also be used for cupboard lighting or in nightlights, and in their coloured variety are sometimes used for decorative festoon lighting.
