GU10 bulbs are generally popular in downlights and spotlights. The GU10 is one of the most familiar caps in existence . The 2-pin GU10 cap is the connection for the popular mains-powered equivalent of an MR16 low-voltage reflector lamp. It is named after the 10mm gap that exists between the centres of its two pins, whereas the suffix of the MR16 refers to the diameter of the lamp in 1/8th inch increments (i.e. 16 x 1/8” = 2-inches).
Types of GU10 bulbs available
Compact Fluorescent GU10s
These provide an energy saving / low energy option, which offer up to an 80% saving over traditional incandescent bulbs.
Standard halogen GU10 bulbs
Still very popular, but these lack the staying power of newer GU10 variants. They are most commonly used where energy saving is not essential.
GU10 LED bulbs
These lamps offer the best long term value of all GU10 bulbs. GU10 LED bulbs provide impressive longevity and, after an initial outlay, provide a seriously impressive long term return on investment.
Please note - GU10 coloured bulbs and colour changing GU10 bulbs are only available in LED format.
