Massive Lighting is an appropriate moniker for this Belgian lighting company, which boasts more than 10,000 different products covering decorative, outdoor, wall & ceiling, spots & systems, desk and utilitarian lighting as well as a range of lamps in common wattages and types.
It has manufacturing plants throughout Europe, employs 5,000 people and produces 150,000 fixtures a day which are sold all over the world.
Massive was founded in 1926 by Pieter Jozef De Jaeck as a bronze foundry specialising in chandeliers and copper candlesticks. The quality was superb, and Massive's reputation spread. Ten years later, the foundry was employing forty craftsmen, but World War II almost destroyed the company.
After the war, Massive rose from the ashes and transformed itself into a successful multinational lighting business. In 2007, the giant electronics group Philips took over Partners In Lighting International or PLI, the holding company for Massive. Teaming up with this global player is expected to create new opportunities for Massive Lighting to break into new markets in Asia, Latin America and the United States.
