This was the lamp that Pixar chose to star in its animation sequence shown at the start of all its hit films. It already had a cult following amongst designers, architects and fashionistas, all happy to pay hundreds of pounds for its iconic design and excellent engineering.
Anglepoise was founded in 1857 by Herbert Terry, and it is a family run firm, with the founder's great great grandson being the fifth Terry to work there. Herbert set up a winding spring business at his home, a terraced house in Redditch, UK. The company expanded into premises and broadened the range of springs to include hose clips and bicycle saddles. Charles Terry, the founder's son, bought the licence for the Anglepoise lamp from the designer in the 1930's.
The Anglepoise range now includes table lights, floor lights, pendant lights, wall lights and magnifier lights as well as the famous desk light.
