Wired

CCTV is an excellent way to keep an eye on both the inside and the outside of a property. Intruders are deterred by the thought that their movements can be seen, heard and possibly even recorded.

No Battery Failure

Wired CCTV systems have the advantage of a continuous mains power supply, so there is no danger of battery failure. They are inexpensive to run and prices start at as little as £19.99. They come with long cables so that the camera can be sited some distance from the viewing monitor.

Night Time Vision

Various styles of camera are available, and some include night time vision. There are two main types, infra-red and LED (Light Emitting Diode). Infra-red is a tried and trusted technology, whereas LED is newer and gives a sharper image. Most have one-way audio to hear sounds near the camera, without intruders hearing you.

Some wired cameras can be fitted outdoors, and tend to have IP ratings of 44 or above, which means they can withstand rain and splashes, and are protected from small objects the width of a piece of wire.

Colour or Black & White

Like wire-free cameras, there are models available in colour and black and white versions. Where budget is an issue it is possible to purchase the camera alone and use an existing television or VCR to view the images. Some systems can support several cameras from one monitor, and these are usually purchased separately so that you can tailor-make the system to suit your own requirements.
