Samsung

This global Korean corporation believes we are in a digital age. Its manufactures a dazzling array of high tech products in the fields of mobile phones, Television, home entertainments, IT & business, Print Solutions and Home appliances, all using digital technology.

The company employs 13,000 researchers and invests nearly $2billion a year in research and development. In fact, Samsung markets new inventions so regularly that it ranks in the world's 'top 10' for US patents. These include recent innovations such as the Palm Theatre, the K3 MP3 player and HD Ready LCD TV.

Samsung, which literally means 'three stars' in Korean, was founded in 1938 by Byung-Chull Lee. It had rather unlikely beginnings, as Mr Lee did not specialise in electrical items but sold dried Korean fish and fruit, which he exported to Manchuria and Beijing. A decade later he owned flour mills and confectionery machines, and this became the basis for the global electronics giant of today.

Samsung is proud of its mission statement, which reflects not just its commitment to excellence but also its corporate and social responsibility and dedication to sustainable environmental manufacturing. It is "We will devote our human resources and technology to create superior products and services, thereby contributing to a better global society."
